NICHOLAS DOVER’S FAULT LINES: This is my band – a quartet with George Cooper on rhodes piano, Dave Guy on bass and Matt Brown on drums. We play a mixture of things by other people and some of my music. My taste is pretty varied and the band members are into all sorts so we try to play songs in different ways all the time – Dave and I talk more about bands like Deerhoof and Dirty Projectors than jazz, Matt and I both like Americana a lot, George and I don’t get on very well so we try not to talk… Sometimes we play open, spacious, almost country-ish sets of heartfelt melodically driven stuff, other times it’s more fiery and Matt’s amazing groove playing takes the reins while we all cling on and enjoy the ride. It’s a flexible, responsive and exciting band and I absolutely love playing with them.
THE JAZZ DEFENDERS: Started by George Cooper on piano, this is a great band playing all original material but heavily influenced by the mid 50’s classic tenor/trumpet quintet sound. Nick Malcolm on trumpet, Will Harris bass, Matt Brown drums. Completely accessible, swing and grooves all the way, suits and ties.
THE KEVIN FIGES OCTET: 2 drummers (Mark Whitlam, Lloyd Haines), 2 saxes (me and Kevin), 2 vocals (Emily Wright, Cathy Jones), Bass (Will Harris), Piano (Jim Blomfield) Brilliant, complex and challenging music with an incredible band.
